One to Six
We adapted New North London Synagogue’s Seven project. Since we are small, we turned it into a One to Six activity, in which one of us taught the others something.
Topics included:
Discussing the evolution of kibbutzim throughout history and their impact in the development of Israel; sharing a new Marrano recipe for apple pie; learning about the life and work of Leonid Afremov, a Belarusian Jewish painter; learning about the Portuguese Jewish origins of the painter Diego Velázquez; looking at the Shema and its significance; and learning about the life of our Righteous, Aristides de Sousa Mendes.
The One to Six can be changed to One to 'Other Numbers' in the future. We have some new people who are interested in participating, but we would like them to get to know our organization better first.
This activity gave us the opportunity to meet in a setting other than the liturgical one, which is very important to us because we feel that strong interpersonal relationships are the foundation of our organization. The fact that we shared what we learned via email as well enabled us to include our members who are currently abroad.
