In Rosh Hashanah 5754/2003 a group of people from different countries met to share a dinner for the Festival.
The seed of a new kehillah was there, in the wish to have a Jewish organization in Valencia. We needed to have a place to share experiences and be able to live a Jewish life in a country where Judaism is unknown and Jews a very small minority. From an initial group of 5 people, we began to grow and grow. We rented a small flat to use as a synagogue and meeting place and started to celebrate Kabbalat Shabbat and Festival services. From the beginning the members knew this would be a Masorti organization.
In 2005 we registered Kehillat Aviv as a non-profit association and we received a donation of our Sefer Torah.
It is very important for our organization to participate in congresses, conferences and different kinds of activities involving Spanish society since Judaism and Masorti are unknown in our country and we want to change that. We receive and welcome the visit of many tourists at our synagogue.
Activities for children are a priority for us; we offer a Sunday school for different ages and have special moments for children at every holiday we celebrate. Eretz Israel is always present and is a main theme in our activities. We offer Hebrew and Judaism classes.
Our organization is young, dynamic, egalitarian and democratic. We promote respect and tolerance between religions and cultures.
