Grundtvig Programme Meeting: 23 – 25 January 2009, Budapest
The main focus of this meeting was to present and discuss ‘Best Practice’ projects within each of the communities. In addition, a tour of Jewish Budapest and a talk by a prominent member of the Budapest Jewish Community were scheduled.
Currently the following people are learning a language as part of one of the prime requirements of the programme: Gill Caplin (NNLS) – Spanish, Liz Oppedijk (SAMS) – French, Wanda Tepliski (Valencia) and Chaim Weiner (NNLS) – French. Others said that they hoped to start learning one during the duration of the programme.
The partners were priviledged to have as their main speaker Dr Tibor Englander, Emeritus Professor from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Insitutute for Psychology.
Dr Englander gave an interesting and very informative talk about the Jews of post-war and post-communism Hungary.
This talk was followed by a tour of Budapest, which included Jewish Heritage sites and reviewed the Jewish perspectives introduced by Dr Englander’s talk.
Presentations were made by a representative of each of the membership partners on an aspect of ‘Best Practice’ that focused on the involvement of volunteers in their community. Each of the partners felt that these activities were capable of being replicated and therefore should be shared and taken up by other partner organizations.
These presentations are listed in full on the website under ‘Best Practice Projects’ and ‘Follow-on Projects’.
