Grundtvig Programme Meeting: 6 – 8 November 2009, Berlin
Masorti Germany was very pleased to welcome various guests from our partner organizations in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain and Portugal for the meeting of the European Grundtvig Learning Partnership, ‘Strategies for voluntary work in Europe’, in Berlin.
The international participants had the opportunity to find out about the work of Masorti Germany and to learn together in various places (Oranienburger Strasse Synagogue, Masorti Center, Jewish Berlin). The main focus of the meeting was the exchange about our new activities based on the work with volunteers. Furthermore we discussed the development of the common website and brochure; we evaluated the progress of the partnership and prepared for the next meeting in London in March 2010. We dealt with the Jewish Heritage theme in different workshops led by Rabbi Chaim Weiner and others and through a tour of Jewish Berlin led by Nils Ederberg.
Alexander Hasgall, External Coordinator, European Forum on Anti-Semitism of the American Jewish Commitee, held a lecture on European anti-Semitism, the second main theme of the meeting. This talk and the following discussion were one of the highlights of the meeting.
Since this meeting took place during the weekend before 9 November 2009, we and our guests commemorated the Kristallnacht and also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
